Procedural Details
A denture wearer who walked in with the chief complaint of pain on chewing and needs an adjustment in his Denture will be treated at the Level 2 of Faculty of Dental Sciences at SGT University.
The patient will be given a mask and directed to a separate area or an isolation room. Prosthodontists attending to the emergency will be donning a PPE (triple layer surgical mask, eye protection, gloves, and gown). Operatory with adequate room ventilation is ensured. The patient is asked to perform hand hygiene using sanitizer with 70% alcohol. The doctor instructs the patient to wash the fractured denture with soap and water.
Prosthodontist does the necessary repairs and adjustment. A denture is immersed in 70% isopropyl alcohol for 10 minutes as an added precaution. The patient is educated to discontinue the use of dentures for 5 days and the patient is sent back. Attendant (donning a 70GSM PPE kit) will thoroughly clean the chair and all surfaces that may have had contact with the patient with surface disinfectant. The PPE is then disposed of carefully with all precautions. Operatory is fumigated with quaternary ammonium compound every day, to ensure that all low contact areas are disinfected. Handpieces, burs, diagnostic instruments, etc., are stringently autoclaved, in sealed pouches.
